Every token account on Solana holds a refundable SOL deposit, and closing the empty ones sends that SOL back. How much does that add up to for a real wallet? We looked at every wallet that has reclaimed SOL through Sol Incinerator since our transaction index began in August 2022.
How much SOL does a typical wallet reclaim?
Across 4,054,116 wallets that reclaimed SOL through Sol Incinerator from August 2022 to October 7, 2026, the median wallet got back 0.0087696 SOL in total, before fees. One in four reclaimed at least 0.052548 SOL, one in ten at least 0.23572824 SOL, and 113,851 wallets reclaimed 1 SOL or more.
| Percentile | SOL reclaimed per wallet (before fees) |
|---|---|
| 10th | 0.00203928 |
| 25th | 0.00203928 |
| 50th (median) | 0.0087696 |
| 75th | 0.052548 |
| 90th | 0.23572824 |
| 95th | 0.5506056 |
| 99th | 2.44509672 |
| 99.9th | 11.31707219 |
The 10th and 25th percentiles land exactly on 0.00203928 SOL, the deposit of one standard token account opened under Solana's original rent setting: nearly a quarter of wallets (24.6%) reclaimed exactly that one deposit. Altogether these wallets reclaimed 614,568 SOL in deposits, before Sol Incinerator's fees and network fees: about 399,800 SOL from closing empty token accounts (see our closure data) and about 198,700 SOL from burns (burn statistics), with the remaining 16,000 or so from surplus withdrawals and other account closes. The mean is 0.152 SOL per wallet, pulled up by a small number of very large wallets.
How is the reclaimed SOL spread across wallets?
| SOL reclaimed per wallet | Wallets | Share of wallets | SOL reclaimed (before fees) | Share of SOL |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Less than 0.00203928 | 63,351 | 1.56% | 88.2 | 0.01% |
| 0.00203928 to 0.01 | 1,982,402 | 48.90% | 6,949.1 | 1.13% |
| 0.01 to 0.05 | 973,473 | 24.01% | 22,731.1 | 3.70% |
| 0.05 to 0.1 | 321,013 | 7.92% | 22,937.7 | 3.73% |
| 0.1 to 0.5 | 492,848 | 12.16% | 110,781.1 | 18.03% |
| 0.5 to 1 | 107,178 | 2.64% | 75,059.3 | 12.21% |
| 1 to 10 | 108,824 | 2.68% | 266,067.3 | 43.29% |
| 10 or more | 5,027 | 0.12% | 109,954.4 | 17.89% |
Each range includes its lower bound and excludes its upper bound. Most wallets reclaim small amounts, but most of the SOL comes from a small group: the top 1% of wallets (40,541) reclaimed 264,683 SOL, 43.1% of the total, and the top 10% reclaimed 83.7%.
Does it depend on when a wallet last cleaned up?
| Year of the wallet's last cleanup | Wallets | Median SOL reclaimed (before fees) |
|---|---|---|
| 2022 (from August) | 63,250 | 0.0210192 |
| 2023 | 137,407 | 0.0203928 |
| 2024 | 924,689 | 0.00815712 |
| 2025 | 1,754,187 | 0.0087696 |
| 2026 (to October 7) | 1,174,583 | 0.00822672 |
Wallets whose last cleanup was in 2022 or 2023 have a median more than twice as high as wallets whose last cleanup was in 2024 or later. The table groups each wallet by its most recent cleanup only, so a wallet that cleaned up in both 2023 and 2026 counts in 2026.

How we counted
- Source: Sol Incinerator's production per-wallet totals, built from our transaction index, which starts in August 2022. Activity from December 2021 to July 2022 isn't in the index and isn't counted. The snapshot was taken on October 7, 2026 at 19:16 UTC.
- Wallet: the wallet that signed the transaction. A person with several wallets counts once per wallet.
- SOL reclaimed: deposits returned by every operation we index: closed empty token accounts, token and NFT burns, .sol domain burns, surplus withdrawals from accounts kept open, OpenBook and Serum account closes, Pump.fun account closes and NFT metadata resizes. Pump.fun cashback claims (10,375 SOL) are rewards rather than deposits and are excluded. Fees, swaps and creator-fee claims are not counted.
- Before fees: figures are the lamports returned by the closed or emptied accounts, before Sol Incinerator's service fees and the network's transaction fees.
- Scope: these are wallets that reclaimed SOL through Sol Incinerator only, not every Solana wallet, and the figures are lifetime totals per wallet, not per visit.

Your own wallet's amount depends on the empty accounts it holds right now. Sol Incinerator's Fun Mode finds them and shows what you'd get back before you approve anything.
