How to Burn Tokens in Phantom Wallet
Phantom is the most-used Solana wallet, and it does have a burn feature — but it is narrower than most people expect. Knowing exactly what Phantom can and cannot burn saves a lot of confusion about why your spam tokens have no burn button.
Can you burn tokens in Phantom Wallet?
Partly. Phantom can burn collectibles (NFTs) on Solana, one at a time, via More → Burn Token. It has no built-in burn for fungible tokens and no way to close empty token accounts, so dead memecoins and vacant accounts need a dedicated tool like Sol Incinerator.
What Phantom can burn on its own
Phantom's own documentation is clear about the scope: burning a collectible "permanently removes it from your wallet and returns a small SOL rebate from the token account." It is available for collectibles on Solana only, and it cannot be undone. Magic Eden's verified collectibles and collectibles on Ethereum and Polygon cannot be burned this way.
In the mobile app:
- On the Home tab, tap Collectibles.
- Tap the collectible you want to burn.
- Tap More → Burn Token and confirm.
- Tap Burn.
In the browser extension:
- On the Home tab, click Collectibles.
- Click the collectible you want to burn.
- Click More → Burn Token and confirm.
- Click Burn.
That is genuinely useful for getting rid of one obvious piece of spam. It stops being practical at about the fifth NFT, because there is no multi-select — each one is its own trip through the menu and its own signature.
What Phantom cannot do
Three gaps account for most of the SOL that stays locked in a Phantom wallet:
Fungible tokens have no burn option. The burn action lives on collectibles. Your dead memecoins, failed airdrops, and dust positions have no equivalent button, no matter how far you dig into the token detail screen.
Empty token accounts are invisible. Once you sell a token, its account stays open holding a rent deposit of about 0.00204 SOL. Phantom does not show you these accounts and offers no way to close them. This is usually the single largest pool of recoverable SOL in an active wallet, and it is completely hidden from the wallet UI.
There is no bulk anything. No select-all, no batching. A wallet with sixty spam NFTs means sixty separate confirmations.
None of this is a criticism of Phantom — it is a wallet, not a cleanup tool. It just means the cleanup job needs something built for it, which is exactly why Phantom lists Sol Incinerator in its own app directory.
How to burn tokens and reclaim rent with Phantom connected
Sol Incinerator connects to Phantom directly and fills in all three gaps.
- Open Sol Incinerator and connect Phantom. The scan is read-only — no signature is needed just to see what is reclaimable.
- Start in Fun Mode. It is the default and it is strictly non-destructive: it only closes accounts that are already empty and cannot touch anything you still hold. For most wallets this alone is the biggest win, and it carries no risk to your assets.
- Switch to Pro Mode to burn actual tokens and NFTs. Assets above a USD threshold are hidden by default so they cannot be swept up accidentally, and large burns require an extra confirmation.
- Select and sign. Everything is batched into as few transactions as possible.
You receive a flat 0.002 SOL per closed token account out of the ~0.00204 SOL it held — a cleanup fee of about 1.93%, taken only from SOL you actually get back. Standard NFT burns return roughly 0.01 SOL each, because an NFT holds rent across its token, metadata, and edition accounts rather than just one.
| Task | Phantom alone | Phantom + Sol Incinerator |

| Burn fungible / spam tokens | No | Yes |
| Burn pNFTs, editions, cNFTs | No | Yes |

| Burn LP tokens | No | Yes (Dev mode) |
| Token-2022 support | n/a | Yes |
Does this work with a Ledger through Phantom?
Yes. A Ledger paired with Phantom works normally — you connect Phantom as usual and approve each transaction on the device. There is no native USB Ledger adapter, so the supported paths are Phantom or Solflare with a Ledger attached, or the Ledger Live option in the wallet modal. We covered the details in How to Reclaim Solana Rent with a Ledger.
What about tokens that still have value?
Do not burn anything with a market. Burning is for assets that are genuinely worthless — the 0.002 SOL of rent is the only value left in them. If a token still trades, swap it instead and keep the proceeds on top of the rent.
Burns are permanent, in Phantom and everywhere else. There is no undo and no recovery path. Check what something is worth before you destroy it.
Start with the risk-free pass
If you only do one thing, close your empty token accounts. It destroys nothing, it is the default mode, and on a wallet that has been trading since 2021 it is often worth more than every spam NFT in there combined.

Frequently Asked Questions
Can you burn tokens in Phantom Wallet?
Phantom has a built-in burn for collectibles on Solana only, reached through More then Burn Token on an individual NFT. It has no built-in burn for regular fungible tokens, and no way to close empty token accounts in bulk, so most wallet cleanup still needs a dedicated tool.
How do you burn an NFT in Phantom?
In the mobile app or browser extension, open the Collectibles tab, tap the collectible you want to remove, then choose More followed by Burn Token, and confirm. Phantom returns a small SOL rebate from the token account. The burn is permanent and cannot be undone.
Does Phantom let you burn spam tokens?
Not natively. Phantom's burn option covers collectibles only, not fungible SPL tokens, so spam tokens and dead memecoins cannot be destroyed from inside the wallet no matter how far you dig into the token screen. Connecting Phantom to Sol Incinerator adds fungible token burning plus bulk closing of empty accounts.
How do you reclaim SOL from empty token accounts in Phantom?
Phantom does not close empty token accounts itself. Connect Phantom to Sol Incinerator and the vacant accounts are found automatically, then closed in batches. You receive 0.002 SOL per closed account, which for an active wallet frequently adds up to a meaningful amount.
Is it safe to connect Phantom to a burn tool?
It is safe with a non-custodial tool. Your private keys never leave Phantom, and every burn or account closure is a transaction you review and sign yourself. Sol Incinerator's initial wallet scan is read-only and requires no signature at all.
